Melodic Revolution Records is proud to announce the signing of Oceans of Time

"Oceans of Time" is a Progressive Metal Band from Norway. "Oceans of Time" was formed in 2005 by Guitarist Lazz Jensen. According to Lazz the band played a lot of gigs between 2005 -2008 which helped them establish themselves as one of the premier local bands this also helped them nurture and grow a faithful fan base between. "Oceans of Time" not only built a reputation for their solid sound and showmanship, but also opened doors for them to share the stage with bands like Glenn Huges, Masterplan, Satyricon, and many others.

In 2009 "Oceans of Time" took a break from touring to concentrate on writing and recording their debut album which would later become the album known as "FACES". Better than two years in the making the fruits of their labor, has paid off. The debut album "FACES" was finished in late 2011 and boast 10 originals new tracks and clocks in at 55 minutes.

"FACES" was recorded at Oceans Studios and was mixed and mastered by Tommy Hansen at Jailhouse Studios in Denmark. (Tommy also has worked with the bands Halloween, Jorn, etc.) Faces will be released February 7th 2012.

Northumbria is the bands 2nd release and follows up to the critically acclaimed self titled release Aethellis.

Aethellis has the soaring majesty of classic symphonic rock and incorporates a contemporary rhythmic feel along with asymmetrical meters and polytriad harmonies and catchy hooks! The first Aethellis album was spearheaded and recorded in 2002/2003 by classically trained keyboardist, vocalist and guitarist Ellsworth Hall and has many influences including rock, classical, synth pop, funk, jazz.

Northumbria is now available through CDBaby and will be available as a digital release through MRR on December 20th with a physical release for distribution and sales worldwide due in early 2012.

A Charity Release with a Different Twist.

This year we decided to try something a little different, instead of people purchasing the Spirit of December from us and MRR donating the money to one cause of our choice, we wanted to help keep the charity local to your communities, so that people could help out their fellow man, woman or child in their area. It works on an honor system we at Melodic Revolution Records and all the musicians involved want you to have the beautiful gift of music and in return we ask very little… simply donate a can of food, a blanket or a toy to your local charity to help those less fortunate. We are proud to reveal the details of Velvet Crush the new release by Jim Crean. Velvet Crush features long time friend and Emmy wining Vocalist Phil Naro (DDrive, The Phil and John Show & Druckfarben) on Guitars and backing vocals as well as other great musicians like Steve Majors, Glen Nash, Stan Miczek (Honeymoon Suite) and Don Mancuso (DDrive, Lou Gramm Band) The CD is housed in a beautiful 6 panel digipack designed by the incredible Ed Unitsky It features 10 new tracks and 2 re-mastered bonus tracks for Europe and Japan. "No Strings Attached" the new Solo EP by the legendary Don Mancuso. The EP features six tracks of pure guitar bliss. Don has been performing and writing music since the early 70’s In 1973 Don was signed to Chrysalis Records with his first band Black Sheep and fronted by long time friend Lou Gramm (pre - Foreigner ) they released two albums.

Over the years Don Has recorded with many other great rock bands like Cheater,Celtic Fire, The Lou Gramm Band and of course DDrive which released 3D last year to rave reviews. DDrive are currently writing and recording new material.

"Fooled By The Hush" is the debut release by Israeli Symphonic Metal Band Capricia.

Another great new release When Friends Come Out To Play the band was founded by Steve Rosenberg. Steve grew up in NYC - The Bronx & Queens then in Long Island where he played in several bands with Lee Rocker, who went on to become the founding member of rockabilly band "The Stray Cats".

After many years of playing on other artists CDs Steve had some songs in his soul that he needed to get out, with the help of his friends that are on the upcoming CD When Friends Come Out To Play. Steve’s dreams have finally been realized.

The musical genres on this CD vary from in your face rock and roll to rockabilly and even a touch of Jazz. According to Steve It has been a great journey and I am proud to have had my friends involved in the recording of this release. The CD is dedicated to the life of our friend William Purlo who performs bass on the song "Dreams", William also recorded 3 of the songs in his studio". Bill passed away in during the recording of this project and when Steve spoke to him last Bill was excited about the music that was being born.

A lot has happened since the early days when we first opened our brick and mortar store.

Here is a quick recap.
October 1st 2004 we open Melodic Revolution a music store.
August 2005 I assemble some friends to Host the first Clinton Art and Music Festival.
2006 We open a live venue which hosted shows to over 300 bands over the next 2 years
2006 We formed Melodic Revolution Records the label with 2 signings.
2007 We closed our store and venue and moved back to Florida.
September 2009 we launch Official Website
October 2009 We launch Power of Prog a site dedicated to progressive music.
2010 We signed 6 artists and released 7 albums
2011 We signed 14 artists and released 19 albums and 1 live DVD.
July 2011 Sees the launch of a new radio show "Inside the Music" with co-host singer, songwriter and producer John Orr Franklin which is broadcast every Wednesday from 12 pm to 2 pm EST via AiiRadio.net

So here we are seven years later, celebrating 5 years as a label. and Power of Prog turns 2. It has been a hell of a ride with many learning curves along the way but I am blessed by all the friends I have made along the way and the support that everyone has shown. I look forward to the future and the many new friends I have yet to make. It is with these friends old and new that we will make a difference in the modern era of music.

A Time for Reflection By John Orr Franklin

We are thrilled to announce the release of our first ever LIVE DVD! How cool is that?! I am SO PROUD of this product and the work that it represents! It really feels as if, with the release of this video, we are closing out the first chapter on this adventure in music. What’s coming next is always a mystery but one thing is for sure, the times they are a changing and a new era and a new way of doing things is imminent. It’s time to turn the page and to quote one of my songs from an album that’s still in the works, Soldier On.

This DVD truly represents many years of hard work, determination and perseverance. It hasn’t been an easy journey to get here and I have certainly learned allot about myself, about my music and a great deal about the business that is the ever-changing music industry along the way. One thing is for sure, I would not still be doing this if I did not love what I was doing. So calling it a labor of love, well yeah, that would be the perfect description.

Years, Months, Weeks, Days, Hours, Minutes & Seconds
When I sat down in my living room to screen this DVD outside of my studio for the first time, it truly began to dawn on me just how much work went into this thing. They say baby steps will get you to your larger goals, well I can certainly attest to the fact that there were indeed thousands of necessary “baby steps” along the way to make this DVD a reality. For the past two years, I had only seen this footage in terms of individual song clips on Youtube and seeing it in its entirety, as one concert production, had quite a different effect on me.

It’s truly amazing to think about how many hundreds of hours were spent, writing the songs, engineering the recordings, designing the album artwork, making the music videos, assembling the band, learning how to technically pull off a live show like this, rehearsing the songs, planning and promoting the live show, preparing the video projections for the show, staging the event, producing and editing all of the footage recorded at the concert, prepping all of the material for DVD, printing and shipping it to market….. I could go on but that is just scratching the surface on the amount of work that had to be done for this one event and this one product to materialize.

When you finish a studio album you get the same sense of accomplishment but there is something quite different about seeing a concert performance on the screen in front of you. It testifies to the amount of work that was involved in the project both visually and sonically. It’s almost as if a concert video removes a bit of the “Wizard of Oz” kind of mystique that can surround studio albums and replaces it with a greater sense of “reality”. Of course, maybe that’s just my point of view as the artist? ;)

Like a fine wine, life unfolds and evolves in ways that you can never totally plan or prepare for. While you may have an educated guess of how to get there, you can steer things along the way but usually the end result is not always exactly what you had in mind. Sometimes it’s better, sometimes it’s not but all in all, it brings you to where you are today. Where am I today? Well, today I am truly thankful.

Thankful
I’m thankful for everyone that has helped and supported me over the years to nurture this dream of making music. I know that sounds like some rehearsed speech from an award ceremony but it is the truth. At first glance, looking at many of the physical products we now have in the catalog, you might think that I’m taking most of the credit myself. The reality of this is actually quite different. As with all of the works that I have taken on, without the people around me supporting and inspiring me; I could have never accomplished all of the things that I have done.

The unsung heroes are the people in my life that keep me motivated, keep me humble and help me by ensuring that the work has merit and is not all an ego trip. Let’s face it, the work is tedious, self absorbing and time-consuming. It hardly makes you the type of person most would want to hang out with on a day-to-day basis. Much of the time it hardly seems worth all of the fuss and sacrifices that are involved. Yet with a support system of family, friends and colleagues, as well as a sincere belief in what you are doing; things can happen, dreams do come true and the work is worth it in the end. It’s the love for the work and the love for those around you that keep the wheels of progress turning.

The Future
I really feel like the future has great things in store. With the continued help and support of everyone around me; I know I’ll be able to enter into the next chapter with new determination and new resolve to keep working on the dream. At the same time, hopefully without sounding pretentious, I truly hope that along the way, I can help others’ with realizing their dreams as well.

What is Melodic Revolution Records

Melodic Revolution Records is just not another independent label tying to cash in for a retirement fund. My name is Nick Katona and have been a fan of music since I took my very first baby steps. Growing up I was influenced by so many styles of music from Vocal and Jazz groups of the 50's Folk & Pop Groups of the 60's Rock, Blues, Punk, and Symphonic Rock & Psychedelic Rock of the 70's Metal & New Wave in the 80's and so on, I think you get the point.

I appreciate and enjoy many styles of music, I would of course have to compare music to food for you to fully understand my point of view. Like Music there are so many different flavors and textures that I cannot just pick one type of dish or country that it comes from, so it would be impossible for me to pick favorite, yes there are both foods and music that I do not care for yet there is so much that I have to sample and savor.

My goal and philosophy has always been to have a label that is more about family and talent then just go on a signing spree and become a mega label, its about quality not quantity and I believe that you will find that with us. Melodic Revolution Records is working hard and diligently to bring the best new music by some of the most talented musicians on the planet. Its about the music first and foremost.

Long and short term goals: Giving to those less fortunate then us and helping those in need, due to catastrophic events. We do this through our Charity label There Is Hope Records.
To make the arts and music eduction a priority in schools again.
To help bring change in the music business where the musicians rights are protected.
To educate people that independent music can be as good if not better than the mainstream music heard on radio and the internet.

Mandalaband have strong roots in the Symphonic Rock music scene. They first arrived in the late 70’s with two releases on Chrysalis Records which have been re-issued on Legend Records (2010) as a 2 CD set called Resurrection. Fast forward 30 + years (2009) when Mandalaband return with their best work to date: BC – ANCESTORS, which featured four of the principal musicians from that original era who are still very much a part of the new Mandalaband project: ASHLEY MULFORD (Guitars - Mandalaband I, Sad Café) WOOLLY WOLSTENHOLME (Mellotron & Keyboards - Mandalaband II, Barclay James Harvest, John Lee's BJH & Maestoso) KIM TURNER (Drums & Percussion - Mandalaband II & Maestoso) and DAVID ROHL (Writer, Engineer, Producer and Keyboards). It is 2011 and Mandalaband return with the second concept album: AD – SANGREAL, after four years in the making, and following on from the widely acclaimed BC – ANCESTORS CD. Whilst BC focused on the pre-Christian era of ancient Egypt, Israel and Mesopotamia, AD takes the first one thousand years of early Christianity as its theme – specifically the legend of the Holy Grail or Sangreal. But this is not the famous Arthurian tale with which we are all familiar. This is the true story of the cup of the Last Supper, as handed down to us from within the little-known Romano-Spanish traditions – a small red agate vessel which, over the centuries, journeyed from Jerusalem to Glastonbury, then to Rome, and on to the kingdom of Aragon in Spain, before finally finding its rest in the cathedral of Valencia where the Sangreal remains to this day. All the extraordinary events, heroes and villains involved in that epic journey are revealed in the lyrics of AD – SANGREAL … a story told in majestic ballads, stirring melodies and a complex tapestry of weaving rhythms … a story of emperors, kings, caliphs, warriors, crusaders, knights and saints. Epic in every sense of that word,

AD – SANGREAL consists of 14 tracks, many of which are spectacular anthems. In addition there is a very special bonus track, featuring Woolly Wolstenholme (of BJH and Maestoso) as lead vocalist on Mandalaband’s rendition of the classic Barclay James Harvest song ‘Galadriel’. A Beacon of New Music!

What’s this? A brand new album release! Where is Soldier On, the new album with the latest single Alpha and Omega? Surprise! We present you with an entirely different album to dive into and enjoy while you wait for the colossal Soldier On release!

According To John, It’s been a bit of a race, both of the two projects have been in the works for nearly two years now. He’s gone back and forth a few times as to which one. John thought Soldier On would actually be completed first and alas, it looks as though Lighthouse has come to the finish line first. For those of you that were expecting the Soldier On release, it’s still on target for release this November if all goes accordingly. The latest hitch to the Soldier On album getting completed is a failing hard drive in the recording studio. Hopefully this will not set things back too much. All will be resolved soon and production will continue! Now, on with the details of the new album that we find here in front of us, Lighthouse! The time is truly right for the release of this album and it seems to me to be an excellent follow-up to the last album Transformation

The nationally syndicated FM / Internet broadcast 'Rock Solid Pressure' featuring the high profile DJ team of J-Rock and Patty The Radio Girl, are currently gearing up for the 2011 'Rock Solid Pressure Industry Showcase'. The multi sponsored show moved to Florida and now commands an immense following through FM and internet syndication. The Showcase has also grown in scope over the years. Melodic Revolution Records is excited to announce the signing of When Friends Come Out To Play the band was founded by Steve Rosenberg. Steve grew up in NYC - The Bronx & Queens then in Long Island where he played in several bands with Lee Rocker, who went on to become the founding member of rockabilly band "The Stray Cats".

After many years of playing on other artists CDs Steve had some songs in his soul that he needed to get out, with the help of his friends that are on the upcoming CD When Friends Come Out To Play. Steve’s dreams have finally been realized.

The musical genres on this CD vary from in your face rock and roll to rockabilly and even a touch of Jazz. According to Steve It has been a great journey and I am proud to have had my friends involved in the recording of this release. The CD is dedicated to the life of our friend William Purlo who performs bass on the song "Dreams", William also recorded 3 of the songs in his studio". Bill passed away in during the recording of this project and when Steve spoke to him last Bill was excited about the music that was being born.

Melodic Revolution Records is excited to announce the signing of Israeli theatrical metal act “CAPRICIA” for the debut release of “Fooled by the Hush” a double CD: The First CD (“Fooled by the Hush”) contains 5 songs.

New York progressive rock act Unified Past has signed with label Melodic Revolution Records. Their new CD, “Observations”, is scheduled for a mid July release. The band and label are a perfect fit for each other and both parties are excited about the upcoming Unified Past release.
“Observations” is an 11 song recording which finds the band continuing to explore new sounds within the progressive rock genre. For this release, Speelman and Tassone focused on the songs from the perspective of a singer songwriter as opposed to the approach they usually use which focuses on the music first. Therefor, this new recording is modeled after progressive artists such as Peter Gabriel, Adrian Belew, Todd Rundgren, and David Gilmour. Newly signed, Melodic Revolution Records recording artist, John Orr Franklin from Austin, TX to release new digital single “Alpha and Omega”. In The coming days Alpha and Omega will be available at all Digital Distributors, iTunes Amazon, emusic, Zune, Napster, bandcamp and others.

Nearing completion of his third full length album, John has begun releasing a series of digital singles to determine the best possible format and packaging for the new release. Ultimately, feedback from the fans will determine the final format for the album. The band would very much like to see the project fully realized on a double vinyl LP with professional cover artwork and digital downloads. The band plans to use the proceeds from sales of the albums first digital singles and they are also planning a fan-based fundraiser on Kickstarter.com in order to see this dream into reality.

The new album entitled “Soldier On” is a science fiction based story that follows one soldier through his personal trials as he discovers his true identity within the grandeur of a universe that has suddenly gotten much smaller.

In an effort to take the first single “Alpha and Omega” to the next level, John brought on Gavin Harrison, drummer from the band Porcupine Tree, as a special guest on the song. Gavin is the drummer I had in mind when I was writing the demos for this album, so naturally the end result is a perfect fit that stays true to my original vision and then some.

Johns live group, the John Orr Franklin Band, is currently booking live shows in the US and aspires to play for audiences in Europe and South America. Keep an eye out for this awesome live show when it comes to your town!

Solstice Coil to Release Natural Causes in June via Melodic Revolution Records

We are proud to announce that on June 21, 2011 (the Summer Solstice) their second album Natural Causes will be officially released!

Solstice Coil had spent most of 2010 communicating and negotiating with different record labels and distribution companies from around the world. After considering all of their options, theye decided to work with Orlando, Fl’s Melodic Revolution Records on distributing and promoting the album.

Natural Causes was recorded in part, mixed and mastered at Bardo Studios, one of the most renowned recording studios in Israel. In this album we are joined by a rhythm section comprised of master musicians Yaniv Shalev and Yatziv Caspi (Yuval Ron and Residents of the Future) as well as a string quartet featured in two songs.

The album booklet features magnificent artwork created by graphic artist Vitaly S. Alexius, with design by our own Opher Vishnia. The highly-detailed artwork includes images and symbols from the lyrics of different songs on Natural Causes, creating a giant multi-conceptual collage.

Natural Causes will be distributed in all of the popular digital media outlets such as iTunes, AmazonMP3 and Rhapsody and in selected stores around the world.

Charity label There Is Hope Records an imprint of Melodic Revolution Records to release “STRENGTH” on March 29^th 2011 “STRENGTH” is a digital CD release to help raise money for the people of Japan, in the aftermath of the tragic Tsunami and Earthquakes that have devastated the country since March 11, 2011.

Musicians from around the globe (International & Independent) have donated music to this release to help raise money. All proceeds of the release are donated directly to Music For Relief who is partnered with many wonderful organizations like Habitat for Humanity and others. Music For Relief is a grassroots effort comprised of musicians, music industry professionals and fans who believe that together they can create positive change.

Music For Relief: Established in 2005 to provide aid for those affected by the Indian Ocean Tsunami, the idea for Music For Relief originated amongst the members of the band Linkin Park who wanted to do something to help those affected. The idea was that if they made a donation, and then asked their musician peers and their fans to make a donation as well, a huge impact could be made in assisting relief efforts. With this in mind, they started reaching out to others in the music community to get involved and became the founders of Music For Relief.

The Passing of the Torch: In a Statement from D DRIVE.

Guitarist John Naro has stepped down as a full time member of D DRIVE to focus on his education at York University. John will be missed as he has contributed much to the band in the few short years with us. We wish John nothing but the best and applaud his decision to focus on his education and we know he will make a wonderful teacher one day. This is not the end but the beginning.

D DRIVE announced that Canadian Rocker John Rogers (Brighton Rock, Sarasin, The Phil and John Show) has become the newest member of the band. John Rogers (Guitars, Keys and Vocals) will make his live debut appearance on June 4, 2011 at Club Infinity in NY as DDRIVE opens for Legendry Rockers GREAT WHITE. DDRIVE are touring in support of their successful release 3D. 3D was released in June 2010 and features the hit single Dig Down with special guest Billy Sheehan (Talas, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth, 24k) on bass. 3D also featured Andy Knoll (Lou Gramm Band) on keys and programming.

Morre Consisting of Adrian Tonceanu (Vocals/Guitars), Igor Lazebnik (Vocals/Guitars), Tyler Koch(Drums/Backup Vocals). Morre was born in early 2008 in Toronto by the common thirst of creating an original yet commercial sound. This band has a unique story behind its upbringing. Traveling from different parts of the world, each member endured hardships as artists, as well as the joys of meeting new characters throughout their journeys. These elements give the band endless topics and weight to their lyrical and musical content. Combining dark, mystical themes with camp-fire party vibe, this band will trigger a wide range of emotions in their listeners.

With a deeply rooted musical knowledge these rockers managed to craft an elaborate yet easily digestible sound of their own. Actually vinyl never really left us it just took a backseat to technology. CDs became all the rage in the mid 80s and started losing their luster as the internet and mp3s took hold. And the good old album just lingered in the background waiting to make its move. Well there is no time like the present to get back in the groove.

Where has the year gone? We also launched our Imprint (Charity) Label “There Is Hope Records” with 4 wonderful releases helping those in need. The Christmas Gift, Musicians for Oil Relief and Songs for Haiti + a 4 track bonus disc. There are now words that can describe our gratitude to all the talented musicians that donated their time and music to these releases, all we can say is thank you with much love and respect.

We are excited to announce that our newest Charity Release “The Christmas Gift” was released yesterday through our new charity imprint label tih records. “The Christmas Gift” is not your traditional Holiday release in fact many of the songs are have nothing to do with Christmas or the Holidays rather songs from the heart.

So you might ask yourself what is the purpose of this release called “The Christmas Gift” if it’s not an album filled with holiday tracks.

“The Christmas Gift” is an album of songs donated by 14 bands and or solo artists to help raise money for the homeless and displaced families. As many as 3.5 million Americans are homeless each year. Of these, more than 1 million are children and on any given night, more than 300,000 children are homeless and these stats only reflect homelessness in America.

Where does the money go for this release?
We are donating all proceeds to Habitat For Humanity via Music for Relief an organization set up by musicians and helping those in need.

Is a newly formed charity imprint label by Melodic Revolution Records to help raise awareness and money for those in need like the victims of Haiti, The Gulf Disaster and the Homeless in our country and around the world. All proceeds from our releases go to charity via Music For Relief, Habitat for Humanity and other organizations.

We know that we alone cannot make a difference but it is our hope that the work we do bringing talented musicians together for the greater good of mankind can somehow be just one more tool in fighting the good fight.

Ifsounds - Apeirophobia to be released October 26

Melodic Revolution Records is proud to announce the release Apeirophobia (fear of the infinity) the new album by ifsounds.

About the Album

A concept about the conscience of Man about the end, not the fear of the death, but the fear of the infinity after death. But more precisely this album is about “thought” and “spirit”: it's an evolution after our previous work Morpho Nestira about consumerism… we can say that Apeirophobia is about “to be” while Morpho Nestira was about “to own”.

About The Songs
1.The first song is Anima Mundi, with a Mediterranean uptempo rhythm.
The song is about hypocrisies and false idols. Human beings believe that they
have full control on Earth, but they can't control it, because it has a strong soul
(anima mundi) that obeys just its own mysterious rules.

2.Summer Breeze is a sad power ballad about emigration: a man who has to
leave his home, who loses his roots and can't create new ones. I wanted to
speak about this phenomenon from “psychological” and intimate point of view
and not from a “sociological” point of view.

3. Last Minutes, a solid rock number. This song is a duet: there is a woman
on death row and a man with terminal disease in their 5 last minutes of life.
Again I wanted to point out the psychological drama more than the sociological
view.

4. Aprile is a sweet piano-based song. There are two versions, an acoustic
one (piano, cello and violin) and a “rock” one.

5. Apeirophobia: it's a 28 minutes long suite in 9 parts. Lyrics are about the
fear of the infinity and how different philosophies and religions tried to explain
the sense of life. We don't know what we'll find after death: we can find an
ocean of light (Christianism) or an ocean of darkness (Atheism, Materialism);
maybe we're the creators of the reality (Kant, Hegel), or maybe we'll have
several lives to explore every part of our personality (Hinduism, Buddhism).
Maybe the sense of life is to become immortal in the memory of people
(Ugo Foscolo, Giordano Bruno)... Finally the only way to overcome the fear is
to feel ourselves as a part of something bigger, the human race: we are all
part of it and we all share the same destiny.

Revamped and gearing up for the holidays

Melodic Revolution Records Official website has been given a makeover, it's a bit modern and edgy. If you haven’t seen the new look check it out and let us know what you think. And we are proud to announce that we now have someone besides me to write album reviews. David Pearson who writes for the Classic Rock Society and Power of Prog. In fact there are 10 new album reviews including 2 of our releases “3D by DDrive” and “A Progressive Journey – Sampler”

Today at 3pm eastern standard time our very own Dario Lastella of ifsounds will be interviewed on Blog Talk Radio by Andrea Garrison the phone and chat lines will be open. This is a 3 hour show and will feature music from various releases including the new release Apeirophobia to be released on October 26th 2010. If you can’t make this very cool show with Dario and Andrea it will be available as a podcast after the show. We hope you have chance to call in or drop by and chat with us.

DDRIVE are getting ready for the "Official" release show at Nola's Velvet Room In Rochester NY on October 23rd for the new "3D" CD!! some great reviews and feedback at this point. The first package of it's kind! All 3D artwork and includes the 3D glasses and a poster. The only thing that could this release better would be to release on Vinyl!! Maybe next pressing.. DDRIVE will also be dedicating the evening to a great person, singer and friend who has passed Alise G. aka Chica. With any luck we will have a bunch of videos of her performing and a screen to run them on all evening. She will not be forgotten. Christmas Is A Time For Giving

Yes it’s that time of the year, the smell of wood burning in the fireplace, decorations adorning all the homes across our great land. The malls are bustling with those buying gifts for family and friends. It’s a time of the year where we feel everything is right with our lives and hope is everywhere we turn. However, nothing is farther than the truth; we have all felt the crunch from the most recent recession. It has also been rough for people all around the globe with so many tragedies from floods to earthquakes. Many of us reached deep into our pockets to help one another in some way this year. That may be good for many of us as we feel we have done our part, but not for me.

Melodic Revolution Records has always been there promoting the underdog the up and coming musician or band but somehow that does not seem to be enough. We have released a couple of charity release to do our part, and we are about to embark on this idea one more time. Yes Christmas is just around the corner and it is the season for giving, so I have a gift for all of you, one that will bring joy not only to your heart but those who need it the most. Let’s give to those who are less fortunate than ourselves, those who have lost their jobs and homes…the homeless.

Start a food drive, donate some toys, clothes or even a blanket. We will do our part by releasing an album of music donated by musicians from around the world. Six Years Ago Today

We have come a long way since our humble beginnings as a small independent CD store which opened in a small village in Clinton located upstate NY.

In just one year we expanded to include a live venue by night and art gallery by day while adding many new sections to our store like independent music from around the world and vinyl. Also in our second year we created an art and music festival now in its 5 year.

Our goal was simple and still stands today; Bring together musicians, artists, and every day people to keep the inspiration and imagination of the arts alive. The telling of a story through a song or art has an impact and long lasting effects in our daily lives. We try to promote these effects in hopes that people will continue to use music to learn, entertain, inspire, and open new doors in their lives. The next 2 years would prove to be even better as we formed an indie label with 2 Artist Echoes Landing and Laurie Larson. And in September 2007 we closed the doors On Melodic Revolution the store and relocated back to Orlando, Fl.

In 2009 we started a social network for Progressive Rock fans and its many sub-genres called Power of Prog. Power of Prog has proved to be a wonderful site with over 800 members and growing. Fast forward to 2010 Power of Prog turns 1 and Melodic Revolution Records turns 6. We have kept our online store up and our label has grown with the addition of artist like Rick Andrews, ifsounds, The Rescue, DDrive, Cary Clouser and Oracle and have so far released 11 albums and plan on 6 more before the year’s end, with releases due from Scarlet Hollow, Jim Crean, If sounds and Mogador.

A bipartisan group of Senators has introduced legislation that would give the Justice Department an expedited process for cracking down on rogue websites that are dedicated to making unauthorized copies of music available to internet users around the world. The Justice Department would target the most egregious pirate websites, go to a federal court with the evidence, and then seize the domain name.

Once a site has been seized, the Court would issue an order to intermediaries -- such as ISPs, payment processors, Internet registries and registrars, advertisers, etc. -- prohibiting them from doing business with such rogue sites.

CNET called S. 3804, “one of the most ambitious attempts yet from the U.S. government to fight online piracy” and observed that “if the bill passes, it could mark the most significant antipiracy victory for the film and music industries in quite a while.”

Each and every one of us needs to act NOW if we expect the legislation to gain momentum. Our community has never matched the noise created by those on the “copyleft” – we need to be louder than ever to drown out those who don’t care about our art, our jobs and the difference between right and wrong.

You may not immediately know the name Phil Naro, but the Toronto-based singer, songwriter and producer has an impressive musical pedigree that has seen him tour with some of the tophard rock bands in the business, win an Emmy award for one of his compositions and work with some major music industry players.

A Rochester, N.Y., native, Naro has been a fixture on the Toronto music scene for more than two decades, is one of the founding members of the classic rock band DDrive, which recently released it's latest CD, 3D, on the Florida-based label, Melodic Revolution Records.

In the 1980s, Naro was brought on board a new project by internationally-renowned bass player Billy Sheehan for his band Talas, as its lead singer. Talas was one of the most respected bands of the era, but didn't achieve the commercial success of bands like Motley Crue, Ratt or Whitesnake. Talas toured the world as an opening act for the likes of Anthrax, White Lion, Quiet Riot and Iron Maiden, throughout the 1980s, before returning to Toronto to take over vocal duties for the popular band Coney Hatch.With a powerful voice that can hit four octaves, Naro was also an in-demand singer, doing studio sessions with Grammy-winning producer Tom Lord-Alge, who produced albums for the likes of Billy Joel, The Cure, Steve Winwood, Marilyn Manson and The Rolling Stones.

As a songwriter, he has worked with a number of artists, including making major contributions to heavy metal artist Lee Aaron's most successful album, 1989's Bodyrock, as well as its follow-up, Some Girls Do. He also worked with the legendary former drummer of Kiss, Peter Criss, on his 1995 solo record, Cat 1, on the recommendation of another legendary music figure, Eddie Kramer, the man who produced albums by Jimi Hendrix, Kiss and Led Zeppelin.

Last year, Naro, along with cowriters Don Breithaupt and Anthony Vandenburgh, won a Daytime Emmy Award for best original song and main title, for the theme song for the animated series 6Teen.

DDrive has been around for about seven years, and was formed by Naro, and features another music industry veteran from Rochester, Don Mancuso, on lead guitar, as well as John Taylor on bass, Bobby Bond on drums and playing rhythm guitar is Phil's son, John Naro.

"We take straight-up, edgy rock, and make little twists and turns out of the norm with our music. It's definitely not 'by the numbers' stuff. Most times, the formula works quite well," Naro said from Toronto. "It's always our intent to write good music. There always will be an audience for good rock music, undoubtedly. We see a lot of young faces in the crowd at our live shows, along with the older ones. Good music will always be timeless."

Growing up in Rochester, Naro said he didn't have to look any farther than his own family for musical inspiration. "My uncle Santo was my first musical inspiration," Naro said. "He was the only guy in our family who played the guitar, and he also had a strong resemblance to Elvis. I thought he was just the coolest, and I wanted to be like him. I started playing in local bar bands in Rochester when I was 15. My influences then ... were Jon Anderson (of Yes), Lou Gramm (Foreigner) and Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company)." Gramm was an inspiration not just because of his vocal prowess, but because he too was a Rochester boy.

In 1976, Naro joined the popular local band Black Sheep as its singer, replacing Gramm, who had gone on to join a new band being formed by Englishman Mick Jones, called Foreigner. Foreigner would go on to be one of the biggest bands of the late 1970s and 1980s, with songs like Cold As Ice, Hot Blooded, Urgent, Juke Box Hero and I Want To Know What Love Is. "Lou was always one of my idols when I first hit the Rochester music scene as a kid ... I believe people like to hear stories about the small-town boy who left and realized his dreams in the big smoke. There's always been a misconception in our industry that you have to be in New York or Los Angeles in order to make it to the top. The reality is, you can make it anywhere," Naro said, adding that he was fortunate to work with Lou on previous DDrive albums, where Gramm lent his still-formidable pipes to the recording projects.

"Lou Gramm is truly a wonderful person. It's an honour for me not only to work with him, but to call him my friend ... he can still sing like he did on all those classic Foreigner albums. Lou's faith in God and love for music is what keeps him going, no doubt about it." Naro said he enjoyed playing in Talas with fellow upstate New York native Sheehan. "I joined them in 1983. After only eight shows with them, we cut an album called Live Speed on Ice, which made the top 10 charts simultaneously in both England and Japan. We were constantly on the road, performing on the same bill with many of the top acts of that era. The beginning of the end came in late 1985, when Billy left to join David Lee Roth's [who had recently left Van Halen] solo group. I tried to keep Talas going for two more years, mostly to fill out contractual obligations, before deciding to put it to rest," he said, adding that playing with Talas allowed him to experience playing on big stages, in front of huge audiences around the globe.

Another great experience was to sit down and compose music with Peter Criss, The Cat, and former drummer with Kiss. "We wrote some great songs together, especially a tune called No I'm Not Afraid, which I hope gets released some day. The thing I truly benefitted from during my time with Peter was that it enhanced my skills with the business aspect of being in a rock band, along with songwriting."

Besides DDrive, Naro can be seen in around southern Ontario playing music in a variety of acts, including The Phil and John Show, guitar duo with longtime friend John Rogers, as well as
progressive rock cover band Druckfarben, and Ozone Baby, a Led Zeppelin tribute band.

In today’s music market with 100 of thousands of home recording studios and musicians from all walks of life taking there stab at fame. There are almost as many ways to get free music as there are arches of gold. It’s no wonder it’s getting even harder for people to check out your page or to sell your music. I have found that many musicians think there music will speak for it self it should but that’s not always the case. Some musicians think being signed will make them rich and famous, this is very rare these days. And many think because they have a profile on a social network that people will flock to their page and become friends.

So one might ask how can one combat this nasty little trend? I suppose everyone will have a different answer, so well focus on this one item at a time. The first one I want to focus on is your profile and social networks. As this is like the cover of a book this is how will attract potential fans and buyers of your music.

Presentation:
Make sure your page is organized and has h good feel in the look and layout as this is the first thing people will see.

Description:
A bio is very important, but make it brief and to the point. List band members and describe your music. Never and I repeat never say we sound like nothing you have ever heard before which most like is false to begin with, besides people want to kno what you sound like and its okay to compare. Let’s say you’re a Progressive Rock Band and Your Name is Starbright. You might write some thing like we sound like Starbright but have been compared to Pink Floyd Marillion and IQ. Now you have my interest as I am a fan of those bands. See what I mean.

Music Teasers:
When adding new and upcoming material you should post samples to entice potential fans to purchase your new music, if you want to post full tracks then add older tracks from previous albums but we still recommend samples. Its like going to the food court in the mall many places will hand out a small sample to get you to buy their food and most of the time this works.

This never a good thing. It’s like walking into your favorite FORD dealership and saying I would like to see the new Mustang, and they tell you go check it out at our shop downtown. Same thing with social networks. Don’t send them some place else to read your bio hear your music and so on, instead have links to all your other sites and let them make the choice.

The Return:
Give you fans a reason for them to return to your page tell them that you post a new blog once a week or that you add new music photos each week. Have contest, be creative.

Your Product:
Make sure you have links to where they can purchase your Music, DVDs T-Shirts and so on. List every place possible, the more places that are listed the more of a chance you have to sell it and if your product is listed at many location people might have the feeling that your music might be pretty good v.s. it only being available at one location then people might think your music must not be that good because its not available anywhere except the trunk of your car.

Promotion:
This is so very important it’s like playing chess you need an opponent you wouldn’t play chess by your self would you? Visit as many people on your social network as possible and as time permits and make new friends and potential fans. Tell them who you are and why they should visit your page and or add you as a friend. If someone leaves a comment on your page you should leave them one as well out of respect and you never know who might see you on their page and want to check you out. Don’t wait for people that have never heard of you come to you. It rarely happens.

So I have laid out 7 simple ways to become good at social networking and building a potential fan base try this out for 30 days and see if it works then let me know what you think.

Melodic Revolution Records goes 3D with DDrive

Melodic Revolution Records is proud to announce the signing of DDrive for their upcoming release 3D due out late spring 2010

Hailing from North America this hard rock band released its self titled CD in early 2005 which received critical acclaim as well as airplay in the US, Australia, and Europe for having strong classic rock roots with a modern edge sound all its own.

The groups main writers Phil Naro (Talas, Peter Criss & 24K) and Don Mancuso (The Lou Gramm Band ,Black Sheep, Cheater, and Celtic Fire) and Andy Knoll (The Lou Gramm Band) decided to team up for the DDRIVE album and recruited the production expertise of Canadian monster Steve Major to round out the direction and production.

The DDRIVE CD did so well that it was decided to put together the a second release from titled “Straight Up The Middle” Built on the strengths of the first CD. “Straight Up The Middle” was more focused and mature effort and is right in line with infectious grooves, emotion and the good and bad realities of the world today.

DDrive “Straight Up The Middle” line up was Phil Naro (Vocals/Guitar), Don Mancuso (Guitar/Vocals), Andy Knoll (Keyboards, Guitars, sequencing & samples/ Vocals), Bobby Bond (Drums) & John Taylor (Bass/Vocals). Other musicians that appeared on “Straight Up The Middle” Joe Lana (Drums), Richard Gramm (Bass/Guitar), Lou Gramm (Backing Vocals) AD Zimmer & Dave Quick(Bass) and Steve Major (Guitar) “Straight Up The Middle” also received great reviews and proved to be another memorable effort!

3D promises to be a worthy follow up “Straight Up The Middle” as the band has become even tighter over the years. 3D has great significance as well, not only as their 3rd release but the CD will be housed in a special 3D cover with 11 new rocking tracks.

Harley’s fueled by Syracuse Double Barrel Blues Band

The 69th annual Bike week kicked off this weekend at Seminole Harley Davidson in Sanford, Florida today. And what a great start with 3 hours of smoking blues from Upstate New York Blues Band - Double Barrel Blues Band. Originally DBBB were scheduled as the openers for Florida native southern rock band Molly Hatchet best known for songs like Flirtin’ with Disaster. So much for Flirtin’ with Disaster the guys cancelled today’s show and rescheduled it for tomorrow because the weather forecast looked better for Sunday. Talk about a bunch of Prima Donnas’ which is just fine by me.

The overcast skies didn’t slow the boys from New York down in fact I think it fueled their set of originals as well as tributes to legends like BB King, Eric Clapton, Chris Rea, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many others. These guys know how to play the blues. So my suggestion is this, the Double Barrel Blues Band are performing 2 more shows before heading back home to shovel snow off their driveways. They are going to do an encore show at Seminole Harley Davidson in Sanford Fl, tomorrow at 3 pm and then they are tearing the roof off at Bootsies Hideaway in Port Orange Fl. from 9:00pm-1:00am

Acid Rain Bio:
In the beginning of the year 2002, bass player Ezequiel Giménez contacted guitar player Ariel Mascia through an internet advert with the idea of making up a Progressive Rock band. They got together and started composing music for the future “One Night Of Reflections”.

In the year 2003 Martín Magliano (drummer) and Andrés Blanco (keyboard player) joined the project and decided to name it AcidRain.

With Andrés Blanco’s contribution, they finished composing “One Night Of Reflections” and “Shadows”, which were recorded in the first demo of the band with Fabián Gonzalez’s voice.

In the year 2004 Ariel Mascia left the band due to personal problems and AcidRain feared about their future. The musicians decided to carry on with the band and started searching a new guitar player. After a short time, Mariano Revilla (from the former band Salvation) joined the group. In September 2004, after a long period of searching a voice that fit perfectly in AcidRain, Martín Magliano invited Sebastián Fernández to sing with them. He had been a member of the bands Selidor and Jeriko and was the current singer of Atávica. After this invitation, he was asked to join AcidRain...

That was the way AcidRain’s line-up was formed. In 2006 the band decided to record “One Night Of Reflections” once again, returning to Virtual Studios in EP format, adding “Shadows” as Bonus Track. In April 2006, the EP “One Night Of Reflections” was independently edited, produced by Emiliano Obregón and AcidRain.

During the year 2007 the group completed the creation of new songs which will be part of their first production “The Descending Line”. This CD was also produced by Emiliano Obregón & AcidRain and is expected to be edited on the first half of year 2009.

After the “The Descending Line” recordings, Mariano Revilla decided to left the band due to personal problems and after a short search Fernando Culen joined the band.

I Pledge

We know that there are many audiophiles out there and fans of Vinyl that may want to own a Limited Edition copy of Songs for Haiti on Vinyl.

In order for this to become a release we need to raise the money first. This is not a cheep process as it will be a 4 LP set limited pressing of only 250 copies worldwide .

So for now we are only taking pledges to see if we can reach our goal of $6,000 If we can reach this goal then we will collect the money and have the LPs pressed packaged and shipped. We are not only looking for individuals to pledge money but also sponsors. Anyone that pledges to pay $34 dollars or more gets a copy as well as their name credited on the release as a sponsor. We are not asking for the money till all the pledges are in and accounted for.

As a true audiophile myself I must say that this is exciting news, Vinyl is making a comeback with many re-issues to new release. From Jazz to Punk and everything in-between, even though CDs have been on a decline. Over the last 10 years CD sales have drastically dropped by a whopping 50% and yet vinyl is on the rise not just in the US but around the world. Now that’s music to my ears, will it ever be what it was in the heyday? Most likely not but vinyl is not for everyone it’s for the purest at heart like me. Cary Clouser & Oracle finds a home at Melodic Revolution Records

It's an exciting time for us here at Melodic Revolution Records as we are proud to announce the signing and addition of Cary Clouser & Oracle to our family. Cary is a true showman, musician and artist, painting a brilliant picture with every song that he performs to blend passion through thought provoking music with songs like Ship of Pride or It's Time Featuring Damon Shulman. It’s Time is also available on the Charity CD Songs For Haiti.

Cary graduated from Trebas Institute of Recording Arts in Toronto and has been performing for the last 25 years. Cary currently is the composer, writer and performer with Canadian progressive rock band Oracle. Cary's current solo release Finger Paintings will be the first release on Melodic Revolution Records with others to follow.

Melodic Revolution Records Signs US Distribution Deal With PBII

PBHII is a new prog-rock band from the Netherlands who’s debut was released in Europe on January 23 2010 @ “de Boerderij”, Zoetermeer, Holland.

The sound of PBII is a mixture between Porcupine Tree, Frost* & Genesis.
The name of the album is “Plastic Soup” which describes musically, the biggest junkyard on earth; two huge islands of plastic waste floating on the pacific, twice as big as the United States. With this album PBII is trying to get the attention of politics, producers & public on how to handle the packing methods and recycle the plastic waste.

This album contains an audio CD and an audio DVD. The DVD will have the same songs as the CD but mixed down in Dolby™ 5.1 surround, plus a little bonus material.

Songs For Haiti is coming together nicely we have narrowed it down to about 30 tracks for a Double CD (digital download release) from as many as 100 submissions It has been tough to review all the submissions so many great pieces of music I have had them on my computer for the last 3 weeks as I have been doing pre-production and sequencing for this release.

We want to thank all of the musicians for submitting tracks for such a worthy cause. That said there is only so much room and we had to make a decision on which tracks to cut and which to keep.

After listening to all the tracks for 3 weeks it’s like they have become a part of me kinda like family. Now we are off to RBP Studio in Orlando to have all the tracks re-mastered by Don Rogozinski and try to have them ready in time to release On Valentines Day.

This is an amazing release and will feature many new tracks written specifically for this release. From Grammy Nominated Song Writer Katia Cadet to some of the best in independent musicians like progressive rock nominees IO Earth.

The initial release will be made available thru Mindawn and in the coming weeks after its initial release it will be available through CDbaby, itunes, Rhapsody, Amazon and over 30 other fine digital retailers around the world.

The next step is to release a physical CD as we have had many enquires about this, don’t know if this will happen unless we find some people that would like to help sponsor such a release as we do not want to divert any of the proceeds to pay for the pressing.

There Is Hope

We know that many of you are myspace junkies, So I have taken my personal myspace page and turned it into a page called “There is Hope” this page is all about the tragedy in Haiti and upcoming charity release “Songs for Haiti” form Melodic Revolution Records.

You all are aware of what happened in Haiti on January 12th 2010, it only lasted a few minutes I am talking about the 7. + earthquake and the more than 50 aftershocks since. The lasting effects, the rehabilitation and rebuilding after this tragedy will be one that will last for many generations that is why it is we felt the need to dedicate this page to this effort, we want nothing more then to help keep this cause alive.

The outpouring of charity over the paste several week from people all over the world and all walks of life have been amazing to say the least, but we need to keep that momentum going, The volunteers and the and the money thus far have given temporary comfort and aid which is much needed but there is a much bigger picture here. Haiti like much other country’s that have been devastated by a natural disaster will undergo many transitions before really recovering.

The aid received thus far has helped provide short term relief like food water and medical attention but that is not enough. Haiti needs to rebuild its infrastructure not only to survive but to become a nation that can once again contribute to the world. They will need housing schools roads and many medical facility’s like rehabilitation centers for the thousands that have lost limbs do to this tragedy.

Yes it will take years even generations to rebuild but this could be the rise of a new nation one that can compete with the global market and for once remove this country from the poverty that has consumed it for so long. That is why we decide to do this release and why so many musicians have donated to this great cause, we are hoping the money we raise from this release will help in the long run as our goal is to give to charities that will be there for the rebuilding of Haiti’s infrastructure. We tank all those that have given support thus far and hope that many of you will continue to help. Until Rain - The Reign of Dreams

Greek music extends far back into ancient times where mixed-gender choruses performed for entertainment, celebration and spiritual reasons. Instruments during that time period included the double-reed aulos and the plucked string instrument, the lyre, especially the special kind called a kithara. Music played an important role in the education system during ancient times where boys were taught music from the age of six. Later it was influences from the Roman Empire, Eastern Europe and the Byzantine Empire that changed Greek music. Until the early years of this century, musical tradition was preserved in the villages where there was little contact with the outside world. The events and social changes of the 20th century changed the fate of the folk song in Greece.

Okay so this isn’t a about geek culture, history or even great folk music, it’s about one of the finest bands to emerge from Greece in the past few years. The result The Reign of Dreams, a true masterpiece of epic proportions. It’s a slam dunk of Melodic Prog Metal, with an extremely tight and powerful rhythm section reminiscent of vintage Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation but that is not a bad thing in fact who can argue that these bands don’t conjure up incredible inspiration for any up and coming prog metal band. Comparisons aside as I hate doing them, but people need something to use as a reference point. Until Rain does not sound like the previously mentioned bands but do draw from those influences and stand on there own feet offering up a powerful new album that will stay in my play often pile for sometime to come.

We are celebrating our first anniversary, Wow I cannot believe it’s been a year since we first launched Music Is Our Voice aka MIOV. MIOV was launched by Melodic Revolution Records to promote all genres of music. We tried to bring the best of myspace and facebook together in a new social network. Many of us have become discouraged by the more mainstream social networks. Adding ridicules apps and selling out to the mainstream music market and bombarding us with 1,000s of ads.

Our members can enjoy a site that is truly dedicated to independent music. Musicians can upload up to 100 songs on their music player and like other popular music network we have free streaming music, blogs, videos, groups, events and so on.

Melodic Revolution Records also host an Artist of the Month contest at MIOV where the artist are voted on by there friends and fans. I am a bit amazed that the site has not grown as big as our other sites like Power of Prog. That said I truly believe it’s about quality not quantity. Musicians Always Pay The Price!

This is a blog I had read the other day and it was quit disturbing so I decided to re-post it here. It just goes to show that there is no respect left for music or those that create it.

I've always been for the sharing of music by individuals for the cultural benefit of us all. However, the internet is a constantly changing landscape and new pitfalls appear as time goes by. Just want to alert fellow music artists to a growing number of commercial sites that are sourcing mp3 direct download links from many sites on the net and using them without permission in a way that in my view is little more than a scam. For example, take a look at the search on my artist name at a site called bomb-mp3.com:

You will see a number of my tracks appearing on that page. These tracks have been sourced from free mp3 download links at sites like Last.fm, Ning (host site for GZP) and even one of my collaborators' own websites - basically from anywhere on the net there is a direct mp3 download link. The tracks are being offered by the bomb-mp3 site without permission for free download, streaming, viral embeds bearing the sites' commercial logo and (here's the main scam part from my point of view) the site is also offering ringtones of each track. If visitors click on the tracks' ringtones links they are taken to another website that attempts to lure them into entering their mobile phone number. If they do this without reading the ultra fine print, they will have automatically signed up for an ongoing paid ringtone subscription (the one I saw was $10 per week).

The sites I know of that are doing this to date: bomb-mp3.com, beemp3.com, abmp3.com, mp3raid.com. If you are concerned about this you can search on your own band name on these sites to see if your music is being used in this way too. A vast number of artists' music is being used without their permission.

If it was just a matter of sites re posting download links and thereby sharing our music around, I would not be bothered. It's the large scale commercial aspect of it being used in this scammy way that bothers me. I saw this start to happen around the middle of last year with just one site, now I know of three more doing the same. I've also checked out the Alexa site to see statistics on these sites and have seen them in the Top 100 traffic sites for some world nations. Two of the sites had a 72% traffic growth in the past week. Seems like this is a growing virus.

I have removed all my music from free download at Last.fm and Ning and have alerted them about the issue. I have also emailed all the above mentioned ringtones sites demanding removal of my music but have had no reply.

If you find your music being sourced from Ning or Last.fm on these sites, here are a couple of email addresses to contact about it:

Some sites are safe from these ringtones sites (like my favorite, Bandcamp), because they use Java or other safer methods of providing downloads (instead of direct mp3 download links).

Independent musicians come together to help victims of Haiti

Songs for Haiti is coming along nicely many wonderful submissions from the independent music community. We have received dozens of tracks so far and I must say some of the tracks are very moving it really puts a different perspective on things. It looks like its going to be a Double CD featuring around 30 tracks and retailing for $13.98 with all profits going directly to Charity.

We are in the process in seeking the right organization for this project as there is much that needs to be done for the people of Haiti. From the basics like food water and medical, but there is a bigger picture to look at like the rebuilding of an infrastructure. Schools, Hospitals, Homes, Roads and so on. We want to make sure the charity we choose is a good one, where at least 98% of the proceeds goes to the cause. Don't get me wrong there are many organizations out there that are good but some may keep as much as 50% or more for administrative fees, so we just want to make sure we have chosen the right one. We will have an organization before the release. We will make an announcement here.

The music community has always pulled together in times of need from Bangladesh to Farm Aid So we are hoping this release will help in the same manner even if on a smaller level. Who is on this release? Well we don’t want to spoil the party so we will reveal the entire cast at the same time once the CD is ready to be mastered.

One can never sit still one must keep moving or will be left in the dust. So it is with this that we have been hard at work on some new websites. First our Official Home page melodicrevolution.com has long been over due for an overhaul. That said we have been doing just that and I must say the new site is a big improvement.

We have not yet officially launched the overhauled site but we welcome you to check it out. It’s very different we have so many new features, here are some examples. You can get all you info right off the home page like news – new arrivals - featured video our online shop and more. Oh and another cool thing is you can become a friend and set up your own webpage for free this will help keep you in the loop with what’s going on and mingle with the many bands we work with once they have started uploading there information.

Like I said this is not yet an official launch of the revamped site and we are still hard at work to make it even better but we hope you will at least check it out.

Site number two has been up since the end of January. This site is different in the sense that we launched it as a new social network site called music is our voice or miov for short. Its allot like myspace but what makes this site a bit different is its for independent musicians artists, poets and fans of music and the arts as well as independent music industry professionals like indie labels recording studios and so on.

We offer free promotion through the site to bands and independent industry professionals. There are no pop-up ads or a bunch of useless things that can annoy.
You can use on of the many easy templates on the site or set it up like a professional website by using your own CSS template. It cost nothing to join but its just one more place a band can promote their music for free and fans can find new bands to enjoy.

The Clinton Art and Music Festival is an annual festival celebrating and showcasing a diverse blend of independent music, art, performance art, and community. The festival provides a forum for independent musicians, fans, and creative minds to keep the inspiration and imagination alive that both music and the arts provide. The telling of a story through a song or art has an impact and long lasting effects in our daily lives. They try to promote these effects in hopes that people will continue to use music and the arts to learn, entertain, inspire, and open new doors in their lives.

The Art and Music Festival will be held in the New England style community of Clinton, New York on August 29th, 2009 from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. This is an exciting event featuring a diverse lineup of musicians, art and more.

The Art and Music Festival features more than 40 artists performing non stop at 7 locations most genres are accepted, including alternative, bluegrass, blues, Cajun/zydeco, Celtic, electronic, experimental, folk/traditional, freestyle, funk, Gothic, indie, jazz, jam band, novelty, punk, rap/hip hop, reggae, rockabilly, rock, ska, soul/r&b, swing, spoken word, comedy, and world.

It's that time of the year when we found out how musicians and the music industries have faired compared to years gone by. While it is true, legitimate downloads and internet CD sales are up over the previous year. It does not even compare to the magnitude of monetary loss or of the abuse by the so called music lover. 95% of downloads last year were unauthorized/illegal read more here.

We are destroying the most important language of all time. There was a time when music had value, when a musician could make a living writing recording and releasing music. Yesterday’s musicians are fast becoming today’s t-shirt salesman. While the internet provides us with a vast array of places to find music it is also what is destroying one of the most beautiful languages of all time. Music is meant to entertain us, inspire us and to enrich our lives but most importantly bring us closer together as a global community.

Remember the first song that you ever heard and how it changed your life. Music has real power and value. It is because of music that the walls came down, and the economic relief it has given through many events like “Farm Aid”
and “Live Aid”
to name but a few.

Every time you hear a song on a legitimate website your local broadcasting station and even in your favorite hang out from the mall to your local bar royalties are paid for these services. This is how the musicians and their labels try to make a living. I don’t think anyone in this business has a problem with free downloads when a label or a band gives it to you for free. Only you the music fan can help save the future of this great language.

Can I be a DIY musician and become rich and famous?

The basic answer is yes you can. But the real question is how do you achive this.

What sells your music? You do. When it comes down to it, you as an artist are the best sales men/woman out there. You are the creators of the music which means you believe in your product or you would not have created it and released it in the first place. For this very reason you will either sell lots of product or very little depending on your passion and willingness to prove to the music buying public that your product is worth owning. Being a musician is not just something to do, or just a profession it is a business as well. For any business to be viable you must have a business plan.

This includes but is not limited to:

- Writing the music.
- Rehearsing for gigs and recording.
- Having your product made.
- Touring
- Selling your product.

There is much more but these are the very basic ideas that will help you move you forward.

Once you have recorded and released your music is where the real (hard) work begins, getting people to buy it. There are many ways and formulas to accomplish this task. Outlined here are just a few ideas. One of the most important ways is for you to surround yourself with people that believe in you, your music and willingness to help you.

Selling them solely on your own out of the back of your car or on your website will not guarantee the sale of lots of product. You are competing with Major Labels big budgets, Radio Stations, Music Magazines and e-zines. But most importantly with musicians who have already paid their dues and have made a name for themselves. What you as a musician may have not thought of is that you are competing with the best bands in your genre of music from not only your own backyard but from around the world.

Here are some examples:

- If you are a progressive rock band you might be competing against bands like, Porcupine Tree. The Flower Kings Ayreon and so on.
- If you are a metal band you might be competing against bands like, Metallica, Nightwish, Dream Theater and so on.

For this very reason you must place your product to sell in as many locations as possible from your local music retailer, online shop as well as digital distribution. Again this does not guarantee success. You as a DIY artists are not only the musician but your own record label, publicist and marketing dept. It is of up-most importance that your fan-base know where and how they can purchase your product.

This means constant promotion on your part. You cannot sell your product if the buying public does not know where to purchase your product. Just because your music is in a popular store or online in thousands of locations, this will not guarantee sales. These business’s need to sell product to survive, as hard as they try they cannot effectively promote every product they stock. So ask yourself this question? Why would anyone want to help me sell my music if I don’t help them by sending them potential customers. Remember the old saying: One hand washes the other.

Digital distribution is the least expensive way to release your product and is a good way to generate the funds for a physical release as well as get your music out to your fans. Yet we have noticed the trend that many labels and artists are moving in this direction and getting away from the traditional formats such as CDs and LPs.

Many may disagree but even with this technology you must still have a physical release. Why one might ask? Because the best way to sell music is while playing a gig that is why it is important to have it in a physical form like a CD, DVD, or LP. Many performers rely on these sales to pay for there movement (touring) from one gig to the next. Without the CD you are only t-shirt sales men, and if the design sucks or the t-shirts are over priced they won’t sell and help you pay for the tour and help promote you as an artist.

You cannot count on a person that came out to see you performance that they will run home after the show and download one or all your songs. Your fan base will consist of many types of people. Many who only download your music weather it is legal or illegal depends on the individual fan. That said, there are also those fans that have to own every thing they can get there hands on T-shirts, Posters, Bootlegs and yes even legitimate CDs
You are not only appealing only to the old die-hard fan that wants it in a hard copy like the CD. You will also have the opportunity to appeal to a new generation of fans of not only your music but this form of media.

We hope that this will help you become more successful as a musician however these are just the very basic

Steve has a history that is nothing short of incredible, having what is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and original voices in rock & metal. As vocalist with the legendary Grim Reaper Steve accomplished major success during the 80*s with three highly acclaimed studio albums, along with single releases, MTV airplay, & extensive touring in the States. Grim Reaper videos can often still be seen on some of the major music channels. After Grim Reaper Steve spent a brief period with Onslaught and again enjoyed commercial success, including a single that charted in the UK. Well it's almost that time, can you believe it the 3rd Annual Clinton Art and Music Festival is only 8 days away. The proof is in the driver's seat and thats where we will be in about 15 hours. That's right we will leave our little cabana in the sun and head back home. Two days on the road and 1,800 miles just so we can bring you the best free independent art and music festival in the Upstate New York Area.

It will be nice to be back home and see all our friends, even the cats are looking forward to the ride. Hell these cats have logged more miles than the average fur ball. We are also looking forward to meeting all our new friends. So make sure to come out to this festival and enjoy some great art food and music. And if you see us in the village please say hi.

3rd Annual Clinton Art and Music Festival August 23rd 2008

Melodic Revolution and the Clinton Chamber of Commerce are excited to bring you Clinton Art and Music Fest III. Just as in previous years we promise to bring you some of the finest local art. From the practical to the ornate and even the quirky items that provoke discussion. There will be many tasty treats to savor from various event food vendors to the many local eateries.

There will be book signings, greyhound adoptions, children’s activities, face painting, clowns and more. Yes there will be music. More music than one can imagine, over 60 performances in a twelve hour period. From Celtic and World music, Folk, Jazz, Pop, Blues, Alternative Rock, Christian Rock and even some Hard Rock to name but a few. Eight (8) music locations in all. Three (3) outdoors and Five (5) indoors.

Judas Priest - Nostradamus, to prog or not to prog

Like it or not. Judas Priest has given the world a truly symphonic and progressive masterpiece for 2008. Judas Priest has shown the world that there is more out there than just metal. Don’t get me wrong I love good melodic metal.

Everyone has there own idea of what it means to be progressive. Well this is just my opinion of progressive. I have read many things that suggest that JP will lose many fans, this may be somewhat true but I see this in the US more so than the rest of the world, because in this country it’s only cool to listen to music that your friends like or the horrible airwave churn out.

I give these guys many kudos’ for progressing in a new and unfamiliar territory for them. They deserve more respect than they are getting, that said I think they will have many new fans with their latest effort. Long live prog!
